ABOUT OUR FOUNDER:
Wally High started out on a dangerous path. His basic sense of
nobility, responsibility and concern for those that he felt close to,
caused him to spend some years of his youth behind bars. Taking
responsibility for crimes that he was not necessarily guilty of, he
eventually became respected by people from all walks of life. From
bikers to city officials, street people to movie stars, Wally was often
referred to as The Unofficial Mayor of Kingston. Much of this was due
to his love of music and desire to support other musicians in their
struggles to survive. He played guitar and wrote songs all his life. He
made sure that bands and musicians travelling through Kingston knew
that they had a friend and ally in Wally High. If you were playing in
Kingston you could be assured that a call to Wally could solve any
problem or need that arose.
Wally was focused on playing music, writing songs, promoting live music
and musicians, helping in any way he could. This drive lead him out of
gang life, jail time, and what most would see as a bleak future to a
life of performing music, recording, meeting and befriending his
heroes, names like Steve Earle, John Prine, members of the Rolling
Stones and countless others that he met during his travels as a trusted
member of Dan Aykroyd’s entourage. Music led Wally High to live his
dreams. All the while he was giving back, donating his time and money
to causes promoting music. These include the founding of the Joe
Chithalen Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library to help get
instruments into the hands of those who would otherwise be without. Had
he not directed his energies at music, his life could easily have been
told in a much darker light....
Wally passed away on January 2, 2008.
